How to See What Your Kids Are Watching on Netflix and Prime Video on Smart TV
Cylux gives parents real-time visibility into exactly what content kids are streaming on Netflix, Prime Video, and Disney+ through Smart TV.
The Problem with Streaming Parental Controls
Netflix, Prime Video, and Disney+ each have their own age ratings and profile controls — but none of them notify you what your child is actually watching, and none of them talk to each other. Cylux sits above all those apps on the Smart TV and gives you a unified, real-time view of every piece of content your child streams.
What Cylux Monitors on Smart TV
- Netflix — show titles, episode numbers, and watch duration
- Amazon Prime Video — movie and series titles, watch time
- Disney+ — content title and session length
- YouTube and YouTube Kids — video titles where available
- Pluto TV, Tubi, Peacock — app-level usage tracking
- Any other Smart TV app — at minimum, app name and usage duration
How Real-Time Monitoring Works
Cylux runs a lightweight background service on the Smart TV that monitors the foreground app and reports activity to your parent dashboard every few minutes. You'll see a live feed in the parent app showing what's playing right now.
Setting Up Content Monitoring
- Install Cylux on your Smart TV (see our Smart TV setup guide).
- Open the parent app and tap your child's device.
- Tap Activity — you'll see a live view of what's currently running and a full history below.
Getting Alerts for Specific Content
You can set Cylux to notify you when your child opens certain apps. For example, if you want to know every time your 10-year-old opens an app rated above your approved level, turn on Content Alerts in the parent app settings.
Blocking Apps Entirely
If you decide an app isn't appropriate, you can block it with one tap in the parent app. The app icon will still appear on the Smart TV home screen, but opening it will show a lock screen. This way your child knows the app is blocked — there's no hiding it.
Weekly Activity Reports
Every Sunday evening, Cylux sends you a digest showing total screen time by app for the week, your child's most-watched content, and whether they stayed within their daily limits. These reports make family screen time conversations much more concrete — you're working with data, not guesses.
Privacy Note
Cylux is fully COPPA-compliant. Content monitoring data is encrypted in transit and at rest, never sold to advertisers, and parents can delete all activity history at any time from the parent dashboard.
