Age suitability

Who Cylux is for, how a child’s device is set up with the child’s awareness, and what makes the app suitable for a general audience.

Last updated: September 1, 2026

Built for parents, not children

The Cylux parent app is a dashboard for an adult. Accounts are created and paid for by a parent or guardian, who must be 18 or older.

No advertising, ever

Cylux contains no advertising of any kind, and no third-party ad networks. The service is funded entirely by subscriptions.

No social features

There is no feed, no chat, no comments and no profiles. Nothing a parent creates in Cylux is visible to any other user.

Nothing to age-gate

The app shows a family’s own settings and activity. It contains no mature content, no gambling, and no open web browser.

Who this app is for

Cylux has two separate apps, and they are used by different people. The parent app — the one this page is about — is installed by an adult on their own phone or tablet. It is a management dashboard: set screen-time limits, choose which apps and websites are allowed, see a child's location, and review activity. Creating an account requires agreeing to our Terms, which require you to be at least 18 years old. The companion app is installed on the child's device by that parent. It has no purchase flow, no advertising, and no content of its own — it applies the settings the parent chose.

Children are told, by design

Cylux is a parental-control service, not covert surveillance software. Setting up a child's device requires physical access to it and a pairing code from the parent's dashboard, and the child device requests the operating system's own permission prompts during setup. The app appears on the child's home screen with the Cylux name and icon. Our Terms explicitly require that you disclose the monitoring to the child, and explicitly prohibit using Cylux to monitor an adult without their informed consent, or anyone who is not a child in your care. Accounts we reasonably believe are being used for stalking or unauthorised surveillance are terminated.

Why the app is rated for a general audience

The parent app contains no material that would warrant a restricted rating: • No advertising and no third-party ad networks • No user-generated content — nothing one family creates is distributed to other users • No social feed, chat, comments, following or public profiles • No unrestricted web browsing inside the app • No violence, nudity, profanity, gambling, or simulated gambling • No in-app purchases other than the Cylux subscription itself The app's own screens show a family their own settings and their own child's activity. There is no shared or public content of any kind, and therefore nothing that needs an age gate.

What we collect about a child, and who can see it

A paired child device reports the information needed to provide the features the parent turned on: apps used and for how long, websites visited, device location, and — on Android devices — call, text and notification metadata. That information is visible only to the guardian who owns the account. It is never sold, never used for advertising, and never shared with other Cylux users, because Cylux has no mechanism for sharing anything between accounts. A parent can delete a child's device, or their entire account and all of its data, from inside the app at any time. Full detail is in our Privacy Policy.

Subscriptions and billing

Cylux is a paid service with no free tier and no free trial. Plans are billed once a year. On iPhone and iPad, subscriptions are purchased through Apple's In-App Purchase and managed in the customer's Apple Account settings. On the web and on Android, they are purchased on cylux.co and managed there. Plans bought at cylux.co carry a 30-day money-back guarantee; App Store purchases are refunded by Apple under Apple's own policy. Cancelling stops the next renewal. It does not end the term already paid for — access continues until the end of that year.
