How to Schedule Smart TV Screen Time for School Days vs Weekends

Set different screen time rules for weekdays and weekends on Smart TV — Cylux makes it easy to give kids more freedom when school is out.

Why School Days and Weekends Need Different Rules

A child who watches 3 hours of TV on a Saturday is in very different circumstances from one who watches 3 hours on a Tuesday night when there's homework and an 8 AM school start. Schedule Smart TV screen time differently for each type of day — and Cylux makes it simple to have separate rules without constant manual intervention.

Setting Weekday Screen Time Limits

  1. Open Cylux parent app → your child's profile → Screen Time → Daily Limit.
  2. Tap Set Different Limits by Day.
  3. Set Mon–Fri: 1.5–2 hours.
  4. Set Sat–Sun: 3 hours.
  5. Save. Cylux applies the correct limit automatically each day.

Adding Weekday-Specific Schedules

Beyond the daily limit, add time blocks that only apply on school days:

  • School hours block (Mon–Fri 8 AM–3 PM): TV locked during school
  • Homework block (Mon–Fri 3 PM–5:30 PM): TV locked for homework first
  • Bedtime (Mon–Fri 9 PM, Sat–Sun 10 PM): Different bedtimes for school nights vs weekends

Weekend Rules That Feel Like Freedom

The psychological key to making screen rules work long-term is that weekends feel genuinely different from weekdays. Children who have the same strict limits 7 days a week experience the rules as oppressive. Give real weekend freedom within reasonable limits:

  • Later bedtime lock on weekends (10 PM vs 9 PM)
  • More daily viewing time on weekends (3 hours vs 1.5 hours)
  • No homework block on weekends (unless there is actual homework)

School Holiday Adjustments

For school holidays and breaks, pause the weekday schedules in Cylux with one tap. They resume automatically when you re-enable them. You don't have to rebuild the schedule from scratch each time school restarts.

Summer Schedule

Summer is a good time to use a different profile — slightly more generous limits (2.5 hours/day) with outdoor activity requirements built into the routine before screen time starts. Review and reset at the start of each school year.
