Research shows that children are significantly more likely to comply with screen time rules enforced by technology than by parents. When "the app says time's up," it's not mom or dad being mean — it's just the rule. An automatic TV shutoff for kids removes the argument from the equation entirely.

How Cylux Automatic Shutoff Works

Cylux monitors your child's daily viewing time. When they reach the limit you've set, the Smart TV displays a full-screen lock message and stops responding to the remote. The message shows the lock reason and (if you choose) when it will unlock next.

There's no warning countdown — the lock happens at the limit. Some parents prefer to set a 5-minute warning by setting two limits: a "soft" limit that sends a notification, and the real limit that locks the device.

Setting Up Automatic TV Shutoff

1. Open Cylux parent app → tap your child's Smart TV.
2. Tap Screen Time → Daily Limit.
3. Set the limit (e.g., 2 hours on weekdays, 3 hours on weekends).
4. Optional: toggle on Warning Notification at 15 minutes remaining.
5. Tap Save.

The limit takes effect immediately. The daily counter resets at midnight.

Schedule-Based Shutoff (Bedtime and Homework)

Beyond daily limits, set time-based shutoffs:

• Bedtime shutoff: TV locks at 8:30 PM, unlocks at 7 AM
• Homework shutoff: TV locks 3–5:30 PM on weekdays
• Dinner shutoff: TV locks 6–7 PM every day

Multiple schedules can run simultaneously. Cylux applies the most restrictive rule when they overlap.

Customizing the Lock Message

The message your child sees when the TV locks matters. Cylux lets you customize it:

• "Screen time reached! Go play outside. 🌳"
• "Dinner time! TV unlocks at 7:00 PM."
• "Homework time. TV back on at 5:30 PM."

A clear, friendly message that gives context reduces frustration — your child knows it's temporary and knows exactly when it ends.

Manual Override

When there's a special occasion, tap Unlock in the parent app for a temporary override. The lock resumes automatically at the next scheduled time — you don't have to remember to re-enable it.
